This square, defined as Barcelona’s city centre in Ildefons Cerdà’s original plan, has long been a kind of no man’s land, a victim of budget cuts and urban reforms carried out with no clear goals. Since my arrival in Barcelona I have been drawn by its quality of border area, a wound in Barcelona’s urban fabric. This ongoing project tries to illustrate, since 2011, the latest process of change of the area, which will result in the elimination of the elevated ring road and the move of the Encants flea market, among other significant urbanistic changes.
